JOB PURPOSE: There is an opportunity to article with the Law Society in 2023-2024. The articling student will spend half of the term supporting the Law Society’s Policy department, and the other half of the term supporting the Law Society's Office of General Counsel. While in the Policy department, the student will assist the Director and Strategic Policy Counsel in the development of programs and policy options, including performing research, writing research reports, drafting model policies for the legal profession and attending meetings with lawyers and benchers of the Law Society of Ontario. While in the Office of General Counsel, the student will assist the General Counsel and her Counsel with legal research, writing legal memoranda, reviewing and drafting contracts, copyright matters, drafting executive legislation, disclosure, and advisory work. There may be opportunities to observe and assist at various steps in criminal, civil, and tribunal proceedings, including mediations, motions and hearings. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Applicants must be registered in the Lawyer Licensing Process with the Law Society of Ontario. Knowledge of legal research databases and Microsoft Office suite is an asset. The start date for the position is somewhat flexible, but will begin no later than August 14, 2023 .
