Family Counsellor Specializing In Addictions
Recovery Counselling Services is looking for an experienced counsellor / therapist to work with parents whose adolescents, young adults, and failure to launch adults are struggling with addiction and mental health issues. Recovery Counselling Services offers a unique opportunity to be in a private practice as well as being an integral part of a treatment team of professionals committed to assisting those that suffer from substance use and concurrent mental health disorders. As a family counsellor/therapist, you would be working closely with the designated family counsellor to provide services to the family as a whole. Recovery Counselling Services defines the family as the client. Qualifications Masters level education in Social Work (MSW) OR Masters Level education in Counselling Psychology OR Registered Marriage and Family Therapist (RMFTS) Comparable education and experience will be considered. Education/training/certification in Addictions. Valid Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening (within the last 2 years). Professionally insured. Preferred (considered an asset) Lived experience with addiction and recovery as a parent or spouse. Good working knowledge of human development from childhood through adulthood. Knowledge of family systems in addicted families. Willingness to upgrade knowledge of substance use disorders. Exposure to 12 step recovery and/or other recovery programs. Responsibilities Conducts individual, parent, family therapy sessions. Participates in a rotation of initial intakes by phone within 24 hours of call. Potential for Crisis management of activated caller. Conducts Parent Assessment – Offers 1st available appointment for parent assessment. interview with parents of adolescents, young adults, and failure to launch adults. May conduct assessments and meetings with concerned others who call on behalf of an adult family member. Conducts family feedback sessions with identified client, parents (or concerned others) and primary therapist. Facilitates weekly parent support group (one evening a week) with a focus on setting boundaries, self-care, constructive parenting practice, utilizing attachment theory as a framework. Meets with families outside of group providing family counselling, parent coaching, crisis intervention. Case consultation and management with community partners ie; other professionals involved with family, treatment centres, educational consultants, residential care primary and/or family counsellors, and RCS team members. Attends team meetings, RCS events, and assists with organizing educational opportunities for colleagues and clients. Create and maintain progress notes, treatment plans, reports and any other written material in a timely manner. How the practice support clinicians Provides referrals for part time hours with potential for full time hours if clinician desires to build their caseload. Autonomy over scheduling while collaborating with colleagues in the team to support families. In person office space in the Yonge and York Mills area, Toronto provided. Ability to see clients virtually over zoom as well. Bi-weekly team meetings for case management and group supervision and peer support. One to one clinical supervision with RSW in practice. Billing support. Provided with access to an encrypted Zoom platform. Provided with OWL Practice Management platform for group practices. Belonging to a team of professionals who have worked in addictions for decades.
