To work with the Director in supporting the shelter in achieving its vision of Housing, Outcomes, Mission, and Excellence (HOME) by providing spiritual and pastoral care for the residents and staff that aligned with The Salvations Army's Mission and Core Values. Bible College Certificate or equivalent Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and a current copy of a Driver's abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE: Minimum of three years' experience with Chaplaincy SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES: Conduct and lead Chapel Services, Bible Studies and Devotions Ability to work independently with minimum of supervision Proven ability to exercise high level of confidentiality Solid interpersonal, customer service and leadership skills Effective oral and written communication skills Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks Demonstrate a professional demeanor Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities HOURS: 35 hours per week: Monday to Friday with occasional evenings and weekends In support of our commitment to a healthy and safe workplace and community, The Salvation Army (TSA) has a vaccination requirement for all new employees within the Province of Ontario, Social Services sector. You must advise your managing supervisor of your intentions prior to submitting your application.Service Responsibilities: The Chaplain is responsible to provide spiritual and pastoral care to the residents and staff at the Islington Seniors' Shelter. The Chaplain reports to the Director and works with the Management team Pastoral Care: Give oversight to the Spiritual Care program ensuring that all residents are given the option of spiritual care in their individual program plan Conduct Bible studies, devotions, chapel services, etc. Develop and maintain Toronto Housing and Homeless Support's Spiritual Care Plan Set goals and objectives for spiritual care Develop and maintain Spiritual Care policies and procedures Provide spiritual care and crisis support as requested by clients, staff and volunteers Provide spiritual care training for staff as required Maintain spiritual care records according to Accreditation standards Keep and record statistics as required and provide reports for management Facilitate and promote resident's attendance at Church Link with The Salvation Army and other community churches and organizations for the purpose of promoting pastoral care for residents Obtain and distribute Christian literature and publications Make hospital visits to any resident or community member who may be hospitalized If necessary, take leadership in arranging funerals for residents/community members with funeral homes, or other agencies as requested Co-ordinate special activities such as Christmas, Easter, etc. Support the Director in other duties as required Health and Safety Responsibilities: Comply with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations Adhere to the Toronto Housing and Homeless Support's Health and Safety Program and Policy and Procedures Report accidents/workplace hazards in a timely fashion Conduct facility security/safety rounds as requested Organizational Responsibilities: Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values and philosophy of The Salvation Army Participate in management team meetings, staff meetings, counsellor/Housing Worker meetings, resident review meetings, staff training, CTI meetings, etc., as required Engage in formal supervision and performance evaluations Adhere to Code of Ethics, Confidentiality Statement, Policies and Procedures Manual (THHS), Toronto Hostel Standards Comply with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and ISS's Health and Safety Program Participate in planning, developing, and executing strategic initiatives for the agency Assist with planning and policy evaluation as required and assist to update and maintain a current policy manual Make suggestions to the Management team that will improve efficiency, working conditions and/or procedures Represent the Organization in a professional manner
